This 18 1/4 x 13 1/2 signed Francis Law Durand (1906-1995) Oil-on-masonite painting is in its original frame. The scene is a village after a significant snow; however, writing on the back of the painting says, "Winter Scene Jacksonville." Could this be a Southern snow of the past? The outline of a gallery label remains. The artist's style is quite tactile, with heavy paint adding depth to the image. The frame has likely been repainted over the years, and it has some damage; however, it remains a fine complement to this delightful painting. Only a few auction records and little biographical information has been available for the artist.
